a day to remember

Friday, July 10th, 2009

Well, we have  returned, tired but have some lasting memories of a wonderful day attending a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. We arrived early to avoid the crowds attending, and were slowly let through the gates at approx 2.15, as we walked across the gravel drive through the archway to the main Palace grounds we were filled with pride & anticipation, upon arrival into the main court yard we were confronted by some naval helicopters, to mark the event no doubt, then after handing in our passes were shown into the Palace……. up the red carpeted steps we all went & you are then confronted by the most beautiful ornate ceilings & walls, with paintings of the late kings & queens etc…Big chandeliers throw out this lovely bright light which shows off the gilted walls, and very long pink sofas.

You then walk through into another room with again more paintings on the walls,  which have cabinets with lots of china plates in,  huge glass doors  were open  to show the beautifully manicured garden, with lots of table & chairs set out for us all, amongst the tents with all the tea & stickies in.

A Marine band played through out the whole afternoon to keep everyone entertained, at 4pm a flight pass with 6 Naval Helicopters flew over the Palace, then the National anthem played to signify the arrival of the Royal family, everyone wanted to get a glimpse of the Royals, who could we see…….

Well we got to see, Princess Anne, who i thought was shorter in real life than what i originally thought, but she is so slim, and her skin is flawless, she looked lovely in her Naval Uniform. Also saw Prince Edward again very smart in his Naval uniform, and handsome too… last of all Prince Michael, with his very white beard, but all of them were very charming. Only got to see Prince Andrew from a distance.

What was very unusual was The Queen ordered Champagne to be served as it was a celebration to mark 100 years of Naval Aviation, this went down a treat with everyone as you could imagine, the iced coffee was lovely but the Champers was even better, it went down a treat with the delightfully proportioned cakes & sandwiches, before we knew it the National anthem played again and the Royals bid their farewells and disappeared. All in all fantastic day and one to tell the grand kids about, no doubt. (c) chocorococo
